Hillier Trees and the Society of Garden and Landscape Designers warmly welcome you come visit the Hillier open ground, Andler’s Ash.
Located in Liss, near Petersfield in Hampshire, Andler’s Ash is the 750 acre farm where Hillier Trees have been commercially growing field grown trees since the 1970’s. Hillier are the largest grower of trees in the UK and invite you to come see production in process and the beautiful field tree stock.
Itinerary
0930: Welcome tea, coffee and pastries
1015: Walking tour through the nursery; reviewing the tree production process with Jim Hillier and Kate Griffiths, gaining insight on budding, grafting and how a Hillier tree begins its life. We will talk through how we plan for production, husbandry and look at how the weather effects tree growth and nursery life. Jim will lead with discussions on responsibly farming of the 750 acres, crop rotations and tree transplantation, along route we will view saleable stock between 12cm and 100cm girth. We will also discuss tree forms, suitability to environments, when to secure your trees and technical issues such as lifting, contract potting, container trees, long project call-offs and despatch.
1300: Picnic lunch supplied by the local Hillier Garden Centre
