These talks will concentrate on the rules, regulations and best practices that might apply to the subject.
Often, despite there being technical guidance, a solution is not always obvious, or it can be too complex to be framed within such documents. If there is any uncertainty further clarity should be sought, by the Designer from an expert or supplier.
The summary notes or slides and recordings for each talk will be made available to attendees.
Specifying Timber
Timber is unique among the materials used in gardens and landscapes. It has started to degrade before it even reaches site and will continue to do so until it loses the integrity for structure it was designed for. Timber selected on the basis of aesthetics or familiarity is unlikely to endure and its longevity can be seriously compromised.
Timber can and should be specified with respect to its intended application, expected life in service, required strength and appearance. There are several classification systems that can apply and will help in the selection of a material that is fit for purpose.
