Richard Easton is an experienced garden designer and the course tutor in Garden Design at the Northern School of Garden Design at Craven College, Skipton, with many years of experience in both teaching and the practical applications of garden design.

Advanced Vectorworks:

Attendees of the Vectorworks Zoom workshops have requested an integrated workshop which demonstrates how to put into practice the different elements of the previous workshops, applied to one garden project. This workshop will revisit one or two elements covered in the Introduction to Vectorworks, Planting Design in Vectorworks and Intermediate Vectorworks workshops. The project will be a moderately small, sloping garden which will be Geolocated in Vectorworks. An existing site model will be produced, then a design developed across different layers, eventually modifying the site model to create 3D presentations. A Walkthrough Video will be created.

In addition, we will look at NURBS Curves and Objects in order to model random/flowing 3D objects. One or two more elements of Vectorworks will be demonstrated in order to speed up the process, particularly: how to set up some basic Classes; how to maximise your use of Callouts, Keynotes and Databases; how to produce a Shadow analysis for different seasons.

You will need:

  • A computer (either laptop or desktop) of suitable spec (high RAM – 8-16, and good processor – corei5 or above)
  • A mouse with left and right click and a click-wheel (Mac users – the magic mouse isn’t good for CAD, get a cheap mouse instead!).
  • Vectorworks Landmark – a free trial can be downloaded from https://www.vectorworks.net/en-GB/landmark Click on the Free Trial button at the top of the screen. Make sure that you download the trial, and then install the programme prior to the workshop starting – download and installation can take time and are not the same thing.
