Bitesize Sustainability Event

ACHIEVING BIODIVERSITY NET GAIN  ON SMALL DEVELOPMENT SITES * UPDATE FOR 2026 *

Presented by Peter Massini

During this bitesize webinar Peter will explore the challenges of delivering Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) on small development sites*, highlighting issues such as where to draw the red-line boundary, understanding trading rules, dealing with ‘individual trees’ and ‘vegetated garden’ as habitat types, and the need for 30 year legal agreements. By delving into the details of legislation and guidance he will identify the issues that garden and landscape designers need to be aware of when working alongside ecologists and/or advising clients.

* residential development of 1-9 units or ‘commercial’ development on sites less than 1ha or where the building footprint is less than 1000m². Includes barns, stables, etc.

Target Audience: This course is for garden & landscape designers who understand the principles and basics of BNG, but require a more in-depth understanding to ensure the best approach to meeting BNG requirements on small sites.

Time: 5pm-6:30pm Tuesday 10 March 2026 - with time for Q&A

Peter Massini is an ecologist with a particular interest and expertise in urban greening and green infrastructure.
