Watercolour rendering. Bringing your visuals to life.

The light, life and vibrancy of watercolour makes it a beautiful medium to render your visuals with.
From calm, subtle washes to rich jewel colours and a nice degree of lively randomness, watercolour rendering can really help you capture an atmosphere and bring your designs to life. It can also be surprisingly quick to do, once you learn a few techniques.
At this course, we will cover techniques suitable for garden design, from wet in wet to using a near dry brush, and when and where to use them. We will discuss choosing colours to get cohesive results and to set a suitable mood for your designs. The aim of the workshop is to build your confidence to experiment and find your own style and there will be lots of exercises to practice.
You will need sketching paper, watercolour paper, fineliners (waterproof such as Pigma micron), brushes (including a fine and a medium brush), 2 jars of water, kitchen paper and a palette for mixing colours. You will also need a selection of colours. Ideally, a cool and warm blue, yellow and red and a dark blue such as Payne's grey/indigo. A couple of greens such sap green and olive and earth colours such as yellow ochre. However- feel free to use what you have and wait with any big purchases till after the course as we will discuss materials. It is better to have a few qood qulaity paints than lots of poor quality.
Anna is a planting designer, garden advicer and sketching teacher. She teaches hand drawing for garden design privately and for larger groups and nature drawing in lovely gardens. In her view, planting and drawing sit naturally together - Both are better for taking time to observe, to contemplate, to work on atmosphere and character and simply to be right there in the moment.
