Sue Townsend MSGLD

Sue is a multi-award winning designer based in coastal Suffolk who works closely with her clients to create unique, beautiful gardens which are adapted to climate change, attract wildlife and enrich her clients lives. She has a wealth of experience designing practical and stylish gardens of all sizes, in coastal, rural and city settings.

Sue has a flair for planting design and is passionate about using plants to soften hard landscaping and create different moods and drama in the garden. She introduces water, sculpture and/or lighting to her designs to bring that extra magic to a space.

With climate change in mind, she has been carrying out experimental drought tolerant coastal planting in her own garden to test the performance of plants grown in harsh conditions - sand, crushed concrete and gravel.

Sue has won numerous Society of Garden Design Awards: Planting Design 2014, Small Residential Garden 2014, Garden Jewel 2017, Big Ideas, Small Budget 2020, The Beth Chatto Environmental Garden award 2020 and she was a Finalist in the Planting Design 2022 and Medium Residential Gardens 2024 Awards.

Her work has featured in national magazines and books. She is fluent in French, Spanish and is learning Italian.
