Qualified Landscape Architect, Matthew has amassed 25 years of considerable and wide-ranging expertise in landscape design, project management and implementation across schemes nationally and internationally.

Matt has delivered award-winning gardens across UK, Europe, China and Australia. Schemes have varied from coastal resorts and country estates through to urban alfresco spaces and city roof gardens. Driven by a passion for creative and exciting spatial design, Matt ensures client’s visions are transformed into elegant, innovative and functional landscapes.

Matthew has won numerous Landscape Architecture awards in Australia and the UK, 9 RHS medals including the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show. Recent awards include 2023 Northern Design Award winner.

Matt is an Associate Director and Landscape Architect at Barnes Walker, playing a key role in design direction, practice management, planning and project delivery. Based in Manchester and working throughout the UK and internationally, the collective expertise at Barnes Walker ensures that design outputs are always progressive, considered, efficient and distinctive.

With detailed understanding of commercial realities, planning opportunities, a wealth of site-based knowledge and an ability to identify pioneering solutions to complex issues, Barnes Walker are able to confidently see projects through from initial sketch design to the realisation of stunning external spaces.
