Complete SketchUp for Garden Designers - Part 3
Course Tutor: John Wood

This course focuses primarily on working with topographic surveys. You will learn how to generate complex 3D terrain models directly from a surveyor’s height markings.
The course will then explore how to design in 3D when working with undulating and hilly surfaces. Design interventions for sloping landscapes will include terraces, steps, retaining walls and a swimming pool. You will also learn how to use SketchUp for accurate volumetric measurements, enabling precise calculations for spoil removal when excavating hilly terrain.
SketchUp’s built-in 3D geolocation functionality will also be covered, allowing you to place your garden within a broader landscape context.
Additionally, the course will demonstrate plant modelling, enabling you to create a bespoke plant library tailored to your design style. We will also look at creating furniture and other elements to dress models in a way that aligns with your design intent.
Taken together, these three courses (Parts 1, 2 and 3) will provide designers with the skills needed to produce both visually compelling presentations and precise technical drawings for their projects.
