Transform Your Projects with Bare Root Plants: Insights and Tips from Howard Nurseries

In this webinar Christine Howard of Howard Nurseries will present a specially made film to show the bare root production cycle - from field to dispatch, as well offering planting tips and information in a Q + A.

Howards has been engaged in the production of bare root perennials since 1969, catering to a broad wholesale customer base across the UK. The company has consistently demonstrated a passion for plants while adhering to sustainable practices. In the upcoming bitesize webinar, you are invited to join the team at Howard Nurseries, who have documented their processes over the past 12 months. They will provide you with a glimpse into the bare root production cycle, allowing you to observe the annual progression from stock propagation and planting to field management and customer dispatch.

You will gain valuable insights into their unconventional methods, along with practical tips for managing bare root plants on-site, derived from their own nursery experiences. Customers will also share their perspectives on collaborating with Howards and utilizing bare root products. Notably, bare root plants require less watering in production compared to containerized options – establishing a stronger starting planting, do not utilize peat-based growing media, and generate no plastic waste during production. The advantages of using bare root perennials are numerous, making them an excellent choice for various projects, and they are more resilient than one might assume.

Christine, daughter of the late David Howard, the Dahlia's namesake, brings her passion for horticulture to the forefront. With a BSc (Hon) in Hort from Writtle, she honed her skills at Blooms of Bressingham, Notcutts Nurseries, and Houghton Hall Walled Garden As Managing Director since 2018, she leads with innovation and dedication. In 2026, she celebrates 20 years at the nursery, honouring her father's legacy while cultivating the future of the business.
