In this 2 part course, we will look at hand drawing garden planting step by step. Starting at the beginning and going step by step, we will consider initial sketches, point of view, what to include and what to leave out, fore- middle- and back-ground, using perspective, colour rendering, capturing character and atmosphere and much more.
Hand drawing can really bring out your personal thoughts and ideas for a garden. The creative process of drawing helps you to explore a space and to generate ideas. It can make you stand out with your own personal style. And clients tend to love hand drawings. There will be lots of exercises for you to practice.
The course builds on Anna's other courses on perspective drawing, sketching plants and using colour. You are welcome to join without having attended these but may then have to work a little faster and it will be useful to familiarise yourself with the basic concept of perspective drawing before the course.
You will need scrap paper, pencils, fineliner pens, a scale ruler, a transparent ruler, tracing paper and your choice of material for colour rendering including paper. Anna will be using watercolour but we will talk about the principles of adding colour so you are welcome to use any medium you prefer. Anna will discuss materials so wait with any big purchases till after the course.
About Anna

Anna is a planting designer, garden advicer and sketching teacher. She teaches hand drawing for garden design privately and for larger groups and nature drawing in lovely gardens. In her view, planting and drawing sit naturally together - Both are better for taking time to observe, to contemplate, to work on atmosphere and character and simply to be right there in the moment.
